The SERVE Center offers a wide variety of employment opportunities for both scholarship and
work study students. Please click on the job titles below to get an idea of the positions
that are available at The SERVE Center.
- Senior Staff Coordinator
- Open only to current employee of The SERVE Center
- Assistant Staff Coordinator
- Open only to current employee of The SERVE Center
- Annual / One-Time Event Coordinator
- Contact local community agencies and businesses at the beginning of each semester about possible volunteer opportunities for the student body to participate in. Follow up with each response for more information, as well as with each non-response.
- Maintain a community organization contact list each semester and keep all information for future reference.
- Compile event evaluations made by each Event Captain after each event
- Responsible for assigning, assisting, and communicating with each annual and one-time Event Captain throughout the duration of the event planning period.
- On-Going Event Coordinator
- Contact local community agencies and businesses at the beginning of each semester about possible volunteer opportunities for the student body to participate in. Follow up with each response for more information, as well as with each non-response.
- Maintain a community organization contact list each semester and keep all information for future reference.
- Compile event evaluations made by each Event Captain after each event
- Responsible for assigning, assisting, and communicating with each On-going Event Captain throughout the semester.
- Secretary
- Responsible for taking minutes and attendance at staff meetings and e-mailing them to all staff members the day following the meeting.
- Technology Coordinator
- Responsible for updating the SERVE Center website including posting relative events in a timely manner and general website maintenance
- Responsible for updating the RSS feed on TruView on an as-necessary basis
- Responsible for organization of and updating the individual volunteer database
- Responsible for obtaining and upgrading hardware and software requested or needed for the computer and printer in the SERVE Center office

Public Relations Coordinator
- Primary responsibility is to promote SERVE Center events at all times.
- Responsible for assisting Event Captains and the Event Coordinators in creating and distributing information for SERVE Center events throughout the campus (by posting flyers/posters on various bulletin boards, chalking, banners, etc.).
- Draft and submit appropriate publicity request forms (such as announcements on the Truman Master Calendar or announcements in Truman Today), file digital copies for reference in appropriate folders on computer, confirm entries with the media before publication (to make sure their template is accurate and error-free). Have the SERVE Center Advisor and Staff Coordinator(s) proof material before submitting.
- Stay in contact with the Truman PR office.
- BIG Event Coordinator
- Open only to current employee of The SERVE Center
- Responsible for executing or delegating any and all activities relating to the Big Event.
- BIG Event Assistant Coordinator
- Assist BIG Event Coordinator in all tasks related to the executiong of the event.
- Train to take over The BIG Event Coordinator position.
- Open to sophomores & juniors who plan to work for The SERVE Center the following year.
- BIG Week of Giving Coordinator
- Responsible for executing or delegating any and all activities relating to the SERVE Center Big Week of Giving.
- Responsible for overseeing coordination of the Big Week of
Giving Food Drive.
- Big Week of Giving Concert Coordinator
- Responsible for full coordination of the Big Week of Giving Charity Concert (performers, speakers, reservations, overseeing publicity, tickets, programs, etc.)
- Communications
Coordinator
- Responsible for reading and responding to each SERVE Center e-mail in a professional and accurate manner.
- If unable to respond accurately to an e-mail, responsible for notifying the appropriate SERVE Center employee.
- Responsible for sending e-mails to the listserv whenever new volunteer opportunities arise.
- Internal Relations
- Facilitate team-building activities once each month at SERVE Center meetings.
- Responsible for obtaining food and water for one SERVE Center meeting each month.
- Responsible for organizing SERVE Center semester retreats.
- Responsible for organizing SERVE birthday recognition of employees
- Student Assistant
- General member of The SERVE Center team.
- SERVE as an event captain when called upon by on-going and one-time event coordinators.
- Help with publicity and organization of events when needed.
Application Process
The SERVE conducts one formal hiring session each academic year during the spring semester.
All interested applicants are encouraged to apply at that time. Priority will be given to
students seeking work-study and scholarship positions; however, there are a few, limited
positions where institutional hours will be available. Applications are available online
and hardcopy in the office. After a student has submitted an application, SERVE Center
staff reviews all applications and select students to interview.
Once a student has been selected for employment, it is his/her responsibility to submit
an online iclearance found via the student’s TruView account. The SERVE Center must obtain clearance
through the Payroll/Financial Aid Office before a student can begin work.
Types of Compensation
- Work-Study – Hours are awarded by Financial Aid. Number of hours varies per student.
- Scholarship Hours – Hours awarded by Financial Aid. Students must complete 60 hours per semester of work service to the University.
- Institutional – Compensation is based on current minimum wage rates.
