School Programs
Kirksville Primary School	Brashear Elementary- After school program
Volunteers needed Monday - Thursday from 3-5pm to help with math and reading, 1st and 2nd grade homework, and kindergarten activities. Volunteers can help one time or for as many days as they can. if interested, please contact Christy Vestal at cvestal@kirksville.k12.mo.us or call 660-665-5691	3:15-5:15 every day For K-6th graders. There are 40 students in the program. Volunteers help facilitate activities such as snacks, gym activities, and homework time. Volunteers are not responsible for creating curriculum. There is a required $5 background check. You must sign in at front desk when you come in. Kirksville High School Tutoring	Kirksville Middle School
Tutors are needed in the areas of English/Grammar, Social Studies, Spanish, French and Math. Students need to be tutored either during study hall or after school. Tutors are asked to provide their contact information and a list of available times and will be contacted as tutors are needed. Volunteers can work for as many weeks as desired. Volunteers will help 8th graders with art, sewing projects and creating a documentary. Ray Miller Elementary	Kirksville Technical School
Volunteers are needed to assist with cheerleading practice on Thursdays from 3-5pm. If interested, please call Carol Schwartz at 660-857-4492.	Tutors are needed for Adult Basic Education Program, ESL, and adults seeking a GED. Little/no experience is needed, however there is a required 1 hour training session. Elderly Care
Kirksville Manor Care	Twin Pines Adult Care
Volunteers are needed to assist with activities such as arts and crafts, card games, bingo, visiting with residents. Additional help is needed for office work, planting flower beds and housekeeping and cleaning. Volunteers can set up a time that works for them. If interested, contact Nancy Tate at jkkmcc@kvmo.net or call 660-665-3774. Her office hours include Monday - Friday from 8am-5pm and occasional weekends.	Volunteers are wanted to help with musical talents, visiting with residents, card games, transport residents to and from activities, etc. Volunteers can set up times that work for them, as well as work with Ruth to determine what they would like to help with. Highland Crest and Arbors (Assisted Living)	La Plata Nursing Home
Volunteers visit and entertain residents. Activities include calling bingo, attending social hour, playing cards or trivia, leading exercise videos etc. Volunteers are needed most week days and especially on Saturdays and holidays. Any time of time commitment can be worked out. Miscellaneous
Kirksville Child Development Center	Adair Humane Society
Needs volunteers to help clean toys and classroom as well as help children during special activity times. They are looking for volunteers on a regular basis Monday-Friday between 4:30-5:30.	Volunteers needed Monday - Saturday in the afternoons after 12:30pm. To volunteer, students need a short orientation. Volunteers will help with walking dogs, playing with puppies, cleaning cages, and brushing animals, etc. If interested, please email Missy Decker at adairhumanesociety@yahoo.com to set up a volunteer schedule.
Adair County Library	Hope’s Kitchen
Volunteers are needed to help with shelf-reading, shelving books or rotating shelves. Volunteers can help any time the library is open. Hours are as follows: Tuesday and Wednesday 9am - 8pm, Thursday and Friday 9am - 6pm, and Saturday 12pm - 4pm. Volunteers can come whenever they have time, but it is requested that they come for a minimum of 2 hours that day. Head Start	Adair County Juvenile Office
Volunteers are needed to work and play with kids, secretary work if interested, making games and cutting out things for activities. Time commitments are flexible, but would like volunteers to try to come on a regular basis. The busiest times are from 8am - 12pm Monday-Friday. Volunteers from 2pm - 4pm are needed on these days, as well. Krista can also be reached at Kirksville Middle School from 7am - 3pm on all weekdays except Wednesday.
Office of Disability Services	Tutoring English in Milan, MO
The Office of Disability Services are currently looking for volunteers to assist students with temporary disabilities (i.e. broken arms, broken legs, temporary wheelchair needs, etc.). Volunteers are asked to assist students with temporary disabilities get to and from class and other campus offices on a limited basis. If you are interested in serving as a volunteer, please contact the SERVE Center via email at serve@truman.edu with your name, email and contact phone number. Your name will be added to our database, and you will be contacted in a case-by-case basis. If you have questions, please contact the SERVE Center via email at serve@truman.edu or by phone at x7222.	Every Monday and Thursday from 7 to 8 PM Help the Hispanic Immigrants in Milan, MO learn English! The Center for New Community in Milan and the Milan Catholic Church are sponsoring these classes. They provide all the books/teaching materials and recruit people to come. However, they need students to help teach and work with the individuals. They would like at least 2 volunteers each night (1 for beginner and 1 for intermediate/advanced speakers). As soon as we get a group together, we can coordinate rides and alternate times.
